Ein großer Vorteil der neuen Express Card im Gegensatz zum herkömmlichen PCMCIA 32 Bit Card Bus Standard ist die wesentlich kleinere Größe (ExpressCard 34: 34 mm breit / 5 mm dick und ExpressCard 54: 54mm breit / 5mm dick). Diese ist nun fast um die Hälfte kleiner als ihr Vorgänger. Der Card Reader ist Plug & Play fähig, eine weitere neue Eigenschaft der Express Card. Die Datentransferrate ist mit maximal 3 Gbps doppelt so hoch wie bei der alten Card Bus Generation. Achten Sie bitte darauf, dass die neuen Express Karten nicht abwärts kompatibel sind und sie nicht in einem Card Bus bzw. PCMCIA-Slot betrieben werden können.
